What is ToolGenix?

ToolGenix is a hands-on discovery and review site focused on open-source AI and Agent tools on GitHub. Every day I scan GitHub Trending, HackerNews, and Reddit for promising new projects — then I actually install them, run them, and write honest reviews.

Who runs this?

I’m a software developer and self-hosting enthusiast who got tired of AI tool recommendations that were either:

  • Hype-driven — “This tool will change everything!” without anyone actually using it
  • PR fluff — sponsored content disguised as reviews
  • Surface-level — a README scan passed off as a review

So I built ToolGenix as the site I wished existed: someone who actually deploys the tool, hits the bugs, compares the real performance, and tells you whether it’s worth your time.

How I review tools

  1. Discover — Daily scan of GitHub Trending, Show HN, and Reddit communities
  2. Install — Spin up a clean environment and follow the official docs
  3. Test — Run through the core workflow, benchmark where applicable
  4. Compare — How does it stack up against alternatives in the same space?
  5. Review — Write an honest take: what works, what doesn’t, and who should care

I don’t accept sponsored posts. Every review is independent.

Monetization

This site uses affiliate links for products I genuinely recommend (VPS providers, hosting, developer tools). These links cost you nothing and help keep the site running. I never recommend a product I wouldn’t use myself.
